How a Family of 5 Saved $250+ on a Weekend Road Trip with KashKick

This article was written by Josiah Dawley, Marketing Manager at KashKick. He helps shape how members earn more every day and is also an avid gamer and KashKick user.

After moving to Phoenix in June, my family was excited to start exploring the rest of Arizona. One big perk of the area? There are so many live sporting events nearby.

We’d already checked out a free fall softball exhibition (highly recommend!), but now it was time for a bigger milestone: taking the kids to their first in-person football game.

We’re a hockey-first household (go Knights!), so I wasn’t totally sure how a football game would land with the kids. That’s why a weekend trip to Tucson to watch the Arizona Wildcats take on the Kansas Jayhawks felt perfect. The 90 minute road trip would be affordable, low-pressure and something new for all of us.

And because I love a good deal, I added a fun twist: earn as much kash from KashKick as possible to help pay for the trip.

Turns out? Not only was the game incredible, but using KashKick made the whole experience that much sweeter.

🚗 Stop 1: Collect a $200 Payout

Toward the end of September, I signed up for the Chime deal on KashKick

I’ll admit I was a little nervous about opening a new checking account. I’ve been using the same credit union account my parents opened for me when I was 6! But I realized there’s a reason this is one of the most popular offers on KashKick: The payout is high, and the process is easy.

After opening the account, I adjusted my paycheck to be directly deposited into Chime to claim my reward. (KashKick outlines each step required to get a reward, making the process transparent and seamless.)

By the next month, I had a $200 KashKick reward ready to kash out! I opted for a MyCards MasterCard, which I discovered I could add directly to my Apple Wallet for total convenience.

🚗 Stop 2: Score Cashback on Our Tickets

Ready to use my $200 to pay for the game tickets, I headed over to the “Shopping” section of KashKick and discovered I could score 2.1% KashBack from StubHub. It might not sound like a ton, but, hey, it’ll get us a hot dog at the game!

🚗 Stop 3: Pocket Savings on Our Stay

Next up was booking a hotel. We’re not loyal to any particular brand, and we definitely don’t chase hotel status (but props to those who do), so I compared my options on several sites—including KashKick—to find the best combination of rate and reward.

I eventually landed on an IHG property with a solid rate and a 1.4% KashBack offer. I already had the KashBack mobile Safari extension installed on my phone, so activating the offer was effortless. (Master tip: You’ll get a $2 bonus just for installing this extension!)

The reward for two nights came out to $4.67.

One of the great things about KashBack is that you can stack it with credit card rewards. My Wells Fargo Active Cash credit card happened to have a limited-time 10% cash-back offer on hotel bookings. That was another $38.65 saved. Stack, stack, stack.

🚗 Stop 4: Claim More Kickbacks on Weekend Fun

We had Saturday morning free before the game, so I hopped on Groupon—and was pleasantly surprised to see KashKick had a KashBack offer, too: up to 2.1% back.

We found a children’s museum not far from the stadium, grabbed tickets and added another deal to the stack. I’ll admit: I was becoming addicted to saving at this point!

🚗 Stop 5: Filling up on Savings

The last piece of the puzzle was activating the Upside offer through KashKick so we could save money on gas. Between the $10 KashKick reward I got when I signed up and uploaded my first receipt, plus the cashback from uploading receipts for savings in the Upside app, I managed to squeeze even more value out of the weekend.

Post-Game Recap: It Was a Win On and Off the Field

The kids had a blast. They devoured stadium popcorn, delighted in throwing peanut shells on the ground, and stayed engaged for the entire game—no early exit necessary.

But the best part for me? Knowing that our tickets were essentially paid for thanks to KashKick! And the extra rewards we earned helped offset those fun little splurges like snacks and treats.

It was a weekend full of memories—and a great reminder that, with a little planning, you can absolutely stack more money to make family adventures more affordable.Planning your own weekend of family fun? See how much you can save with KashKick.
